Transforming a national institution for the digital world of the 21st century

In 2013 the National Trust hired Howard Scott, founder of Three B3ars Creative Agency, as consultant Head of Digital to assist them in the largest digital transformation project they had ever undertaken. This included managing the digital team, including development, content, email marketing, social media marketing and others. The project covered all areas of Digital Marketing from Strategy through ideation, creative ideas and execution.

Taking over the team of 35+ staff and a whole host of freelance and agency relationships, Howard was able, during the course of the 18 month engagement, to set the Trust on a path towards industry best-practice and excellence for content marketing and digital storytelling at the heart of it’s digital marketing strategy.

A complete website design and build overhaul, and the development of an amazing new mobile app for iOS and Android devices, combined with refreshed and consolidated social media strategy allowed the National Trust to achieve the honour of winning the award for BIMA Digital Brand of the Year in 2016.


In the first month of the digital rebranding launch, the National Trust saw an immediate improvement in interaction with its audience. This included:

  • Over 350,000 app users spending an average of 12.7 minutes in the app
  • Website bounce rate decline by 17%
  • Enabled the National Trust to win Digital Brand of the Year 2016 in the BIMA Awards
